Editor's Review:

DRAGON BALL LEGENDS is a 3D real-time action game that combines card strategy and fighting competition. It is an arena that truly allows you to control Dragon Ball characters in battle. As Samuel Ullman wrote in his essay Youth, "Youth is not a time of life, it is a state of mind". What this game brings to you is exactly that kind of state of mind. Even if your real life feels ordinary and monotonous, in this world you remain young forever, and your blood keeps boiling with passion. If you only tap the screen casually, you can still win some low rank matches. However, once you truly step into high level ranked battles, you will realize that the combat system of this game is far deeper than it first appears. You will experience the frustration of falling perfectly into a bait vanish trap for the first time. Your opponent intentionally throws out a slow charge attack, you instinctively use vanish, miss completely, and immediately get punished by a full combo. At that moment, you understand that in this world, only the smarter one wins. As your rank rises, you begin to learn combo drop. You intentionally stop your combo midway, making your opponent think there is an opening to switch characters, only for you to punish the switch timing with another attack sequence. The satisfaction derived from coming up with this kind of perfect strategy feels far greater than simply overpowering your opponent with raw numbers. Then there is timing pressure, where precise vanish timing slowly drains the resources of your opponent until they have no options left. All of these mechanics together turn every PvP match into a miniature fighting tournament. You slowly fall in love with this fighting-game-style experience because it makes you feel that you are not just collecting characters. You are truly fighting like a warrior. Many similar games treat story content as an afterthought and simply recreate famous scenes from the original animation. DRAGON BALL LEGENDS chooses a much smarter direction. It creates an original protagonist named Shallot and builds an entire time travel storyline around him. So you are not merely watching cut scenes from the animation. You are experiencing a Dragon Ball story that belongs to you. Characters from Dragon Ball Z, Dragon Ball GT, Dragon Ball Super, and even movies are gathered together because of distortions in time, and every action you take pushes the story forward. As you watch Shallot grow from a confused Saiyan into a warrior capable of standing beside legends, you begin to realize that you are no longer playing only for summons or resources. You genuinely want to know what happens next. Because of this sense of continuity, you will never feel hollow while you are playing this game. Whenever a new chapter is released, you immediately want to unlock the next animated scene. Especially during moments when grinding resources becomes exhausting, the story mode acts like a refreshing break that reminds you why you wanted to keep playing in the first place. The voice acting is also fantastic: Masako Nozawa speaks as Goku, Ryo Horikawa as Vegeta, and Ryusei Nakao as Frieza. These are voices you heard countless times as a child sitting in front of a television. When those same voices come through your phone speakers again, you instantly recognize who is speaking without even looking at the screen. This is one of the strongest emotional effects of this game. And you will love the performances and voices of these original voice actors. What makes it even better is the use of background music during major battles. When you control Ultra Instinct Goku against Jiren, the music gradually shifts from calm tension into explosive intensity. The drums and orchestral layers rise together, and your own movements become faster as your adrenaline rises. The voice acting and music are not simple background decoration. They are the emotional engine of the entire experience. You may only plan to enjoy one quick match, yet after hearing Goku scream during transformation alongside perfectly timed music, your mood suddenly becomes excited. And you will be full of energy. This is the power of sound design. It transforms every battle into a cinematic performance and it gives you totally different game experiences while you are fighting different battles. So, if you are a loyal Dragon Ball fan, the feeling of nostalgia you derive from playing this game will bring you a deep sense of satisfaction. It is the foundation of the entire experience. When you see Goku and Vegeta fighting side by side, or relive moments such as the Spirit Bomb on Namek and the Father Son Kamehameha during the Cell Games, these scenes are not simply recreations of the animation. They awaken memories of your childhood when you stayed awake late at night reading Dragon Ball manga under a blanket. Nobody needs to tell you that it feels nostalgic because you already feel it yourself. Sometimes, you finish a story chapter and quietly stare at the dialogue on the screen for a few seconds. You do not even feel the need to defend the game against criticism because you already know that the parts created with care deserve respect. You will unconsciously smile while you are playing this game and fighting together with those great warriors that you love and admire deeply. Before starting the battle, you may worry that there are only a few characters and that boredom will arrive after two months. In reality, since its release in 2018, the game has introduced hundreds of playable characters from every era of Dragon Ball, including Dragon Ball Super, Dragon Ball GT, movies, and original creations. This means in each battle, you will have the chance to try different team compositions, combo routes, and tactical approaches. One day you can use the Frieza Force for aggressive pressure tactics. The next day you can switch to Fusion Zamasu for poison-focused strategies. After that, you can build a nostalgic Future Trunks and Piccolo team simply because you love those characters. You never truly become bored because there is always another character waiting to be mastered. Every character comes with unique animations and voice lines, making the process of collecting different characters quite enjoyable. Perhaps you do not actually care that much about rankings, and perhaps you do not care whether you own every overpowered limited character. Maybe after a long day at work or school, you simply want a place where you can temporarily become that passionate teenager again. Real life can sometimes feel painfully ordinary. You just wake up, work, eat, sleep, and repeat the same routine. Yet the moment you enter the world of DRAGON BALL LEGENDS, and the moment you hear Goku shout "Kamehameha", you suddenly become that child sitting in front of the television again with shining eyes full of excitement. You are not fighting to achieve victory. You are fighting to relive your youth. That is the greatest gift this game gives to you. It reminds you that youth never truly disappeared. It merely found a different place to live. Samuel Ullman was right when he wrote that youth is a state of mind. As long as your passion still burns, you remain young forever. Now it is time for you to step into this passionate universe and show your fighting spirit of a true warrior!
